Death is an inescapable part of our lives as the circle of life and death and the food chain are constantly in action. Many people have different attitudes towards death, whether it is the death of humans or animals, and 'The Initiation' by Brian Turner and Nigel Cox's 'The Cowboy Dog' illustrate two conflicting ones. By using violent (and sometimes vulgar) imagery, 'The Initiation' compares the killing of a rabbit to something mechanical and to be insensitive about in order to rise into manhood, yet this double-visioned extract of 'The Cowboy Dog' shows us how emotion-filled a young man's forced journey into manhood can be.
